On May 4, 2024, our first charity event was held at Hậu Giang. During the event, our delivery egrets handed out a total of 1,000 kg of sugar to people in underprivileged communities, living on a wage below the national benefactory poverty line. This event targeted people of different unfortunate backgrounds: terminally ill women, children, elderly people, labourers, people with menial jobs and are unable to provide for their families, and ethnic minorities including the Khmer people. The event consisted of handing out large quantities of sugar, oil, and rice with doctors simultaneously performing checkups to people that required medical attention, assistance (& even giving them a haircut from professional barbers). It was in conjunction with the official Red Cross Vietnam, the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor, and Phụng Hiệp’s People Committee. At the end of the event, our founder and president, Thomas Trần was honoured with the “The Humane Heart of Gold” title from the government for his contribution and charitable efforts in front of all the civilians. The event was done in tandem with the Red Crescent Movement: a mass movement co-action made up of 80 million people aiding others that require medical attention. The Movement includes the ICRC, 191 National Red Cross and Red Cross Societies and the IFRC (International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies). Our participation in the event was covered and featured by multiple news outlets to spread awareness: newspapers (e.g, Báo Nhân Dân, Báo Mới, Chính Sách Và Cuộc Sống, Báo Hậu Giang), radio networks (e.g, Voice of Vietnam), many government portals, television and broadcasts (e.g, Thời sự Hậu Giang). The event provided us with an opportunity to witness the impact that a simple act of giving can have on an individual’s well-being. We hope to keep being a part of or host events in the future (donations/charities/clothing drives) that can bring a positive impact to the Vietnamese community, populace, and ethnic minorities.
